Plum is the most important and abundant fruit in Serbia. Thanks to its specific aroma and taste, which is preserved even after various types of processing, plum has an extremely wide application in the food industry, and various plum products are a kind of delicacy. The plum varieties that Serbia is famous for are Stanley, various varieties of Čačanka and Požegača. Plums have a laxative effect and are extremely healthy for the proper functioning of the digestive system.

A portion of 100 g of fresh plums contains 1.4 g of fiber. This means that indigestible carbohydrates are not significantly represented in the fresh form of this food. Prunes are richer in fiber, and are used as a remedy for digestive problems and constipation. There are as many as 7.1 g of fiber in 100 g of prunes, which makes them a fiber-rich food. Both dried and fresh plums are rich in sorbitol, a sugar alcohol that acts as a natural laxative.

The abundance of vitamin C makes plums an extremely healthy fruit. In addition to vitamin C, plums also contain:
