Blueberry

Blueberry is a bushy plant that belongs to the Vreske – Vresova family. It is characterized by the fact that it grows from 50 cm to 1 meter in height, has juicy smooth leaves and sharp twigs. It is precisely recognizable by its egg-shaped leaves, a small berry-like fruit that is green at first, later red, and dark maroon or black before picking. It usually grows in colonies, side by side, on slopes – slopes of mountains or hills. It loves the sun, but it is also a very resistant plant, so it manages to withstand drought, frost and wind.

It ripens from the end of July to the beginning of September, and the fruit is very attractive in terms of its taste and appearance. Considering that the blueberry bush is rather inaccessible for picking, it is picked in a specific way, mostly by hand with the help of specially prepared “combs” to make it easier to remove the berries from the stem. Blueberries fetch a very high price on the market. The reason is first of all the inaccessibility of the terrain where it grows and because it is difficult to pick it, but also because it is very medicinal, tasty and multipurpose. Cookies, cakes, jams, jellies, syrups, marmalades, juices and even wine are made from blueberries. Blueberry wine is a real elixir of health.

Blueberry as a fruit species is used in cooking, so very tasty cakes, ice creams, creams and drinks can be made from fresh fruit. Blueberry juice, according to public opinion polls, is one of the tastiest fruit juices. It is obtained by squeezing fresh fruits with the addition of sugar, and we can often find sugar-free juice in health food stores, which is definitely healthier. Sweets and marmalade are made from blueberries, and blueberry tea is especially medicinal and can be prepared from leaves, fruits and roots. Dried blueberry fruit is mainly used for tea.
